How to choose the type

  • Stone oven — High, sustained heat for pizza, bread and oven dishes. Slow to heat up but holds the heat very well.
  • Charcoal barbecue — The classic grill flavour. The most common and most economical option.
  • Gas barbecue — Heats quickly, offers precise heat control and leaves no ash. Practical for frequent use.
  • Electric barbecue — Used on balconies and enclosed terraces where smoke and open flame are unwelcome.
  • Metal barbecue — Portable, light and economical; suited to those who do not want a fixed structure.

Made-to-measure barbecue units

If you are having a fixed barbecue built, plan not just the cooking section but everything around it: preparation worktop, log store, sink and cupboards. We design and build these as a single stone unit. The flue direction is set according to the prevailing wind; otherwise smoke drifts into the seating area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a barbecue need a flue?
Not compulsory in an open garden, but a flue is strongly recommended so smoke does not reach the seating area. On enclosed or partly enclosed terraces a flue is essential.
Can I use a barbecue on an apartment balcony?
Charcoal models are prohibited by most building management rules and are not safe. Electric barbecue models are suitable for balconies as they produce no smoke or open flame.
How long does a stone oven take to heat up?
A domed stone oven usually takes 45–90 minutes to reach pizza temperature. In return it holds heat for hours — bread and oven dishes can still be cooked after the fire has died down.
